Volodymyr Lytvyn: Adoption of a New Parliamentary Elections Law shall be preceded by the Analysis of Deputy Personnel of Local Councils and Public Discussion of the Party Lists

Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is convinced that adoption of a new parliamentary elections law shall be preceded by the analysis of deputy personnel of local councils and public discussion of the party lists.

In the interview to Interfax-Ukraine News Agency, V. Lytvyn stated, "No official bill has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada so far, although it is discussed on a daily basis." He informed about the recent meeting of the People's Deputies working upon the bill with political parties.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine deems necessary to analyze the deputy personnel of the local councils, at least on the regional level. "Having analyzed the situation, we will be able to state that deputies elected in districts are stronger, because they went through the serious selection", he explained.

Volodymyr Lytvyn believes that political parties "which are able to buy ratings and receive high results granting entry to the Verkhovna Rada shall honestly disclose their party lists, since people know only their party leader." According to the Chair, the state should vote for the people rather than for the party leaders. "Only under such conditions, would the Ukrainian society be able to see the light. Each citizen would be able to look in the face of the state authority and assess its quality", he declared.
